About Us

Imprints is committed to helping families with young children thrive. We help families nurture and prepare their children for success through individual and group parent education, collaborations, and referrals. Through our programs, we support parents in our community because we believe that family is critical to the success and well being of every child. Our intensive services range from Baby Sign, where you can teach your baby to communicate before he/she can talk, to group parenting classes where you can learn how other parents incorporate learning into the routines of daily life. Our programs and services are all based on the belief that parents are children’s first and best teachers. Imprints can show you how to make the most of your child’s early learning experiences.

How Imprints Began
Imprints began as the Association for the Benefit of Child Development (ABCD) in the late 1960s. A group of community activists recognized that low income families needed affordable, accessible day care for their young children. The group, which included representatives from several area churches, based their educational approach for the ABCD preschool solidly on scientific research on early childhood learning.

In 1979, Motherhood Connection began in order to support low-income mothers who received prenatal care at Reynolds Health Center.

In 1990, the Great Beginnings program began providing parent education and skill building to prepare young children for school.

In 2000, the Fatherhood Connection began to help noncustodial fathers reconnect with their children. Fatherhood Connection emphasized creating and nurturing social, financial, and emotional connections with children.

In 2000, ABCD’s Childcare Center closed, and the agency concentrated on delivering services through its three core programs: Motherhood Connection, Fatherhood Connection, and Great Beginnings.

In 2005, ABCD became Imprints, to better reflect the work and science of strengthening families through parent education.

Our Mission
Imprints strengthens families through services and partnerships to prepare children for life.
